Numbers 1.5

Here is the spreadsheet.  The dependent variable would be the students answering the questions. The independent variable would be the questions and the presentation. The most significant difference was found in questions 26 and 27. According to the TTest, there is not enough significance between before and after for questions 28 - 31. I would say that it was not a very successful presentation since there doesn't seem to be much difference in the scores before and after.

Jo's Picassohead

Here is my Picassohead. Picasso certainly made this assignment
easy since it does not encourage real to life skills. It can also be found here http://www.picassohead.com/?id=8ef9d5b.  I used Jing to get my image inserted on Blogger. It took me awhile to arrive at that solution. It should have been a no-brainer, but I am glad that I finally came up with a solution.

T Test Results

P Values for Ethnic Comparisons Regarding Reading Scores

In both comparisons between white/black and black/hispanic the p value is statistically insignificant so we fail to reject the null. Between white/hispanic we reject the null because there is statistical significance. We can say these results are within the 95% confidence rate. Here is a link to the spreadsheet to see Ttest results.

Google Forms

Click here for the form to answer questions about your reading style.

Click here for the spreadsheet of responses.

I feel that this would help you to get to know the students or parents you were working with. Email would be the preferred method, and with yet another mail merge, you could easily track who has not responded yet.

Numbers 1.3

Girls scored higher than boys by 10%. We have known for awhile that girls scores tend to be higher in reading so there has been a lot of focus on getting boys to read. This doesn't show what kind of reading it was - fiction or non-fiction - which would make a difference. Reading well is a good indicator of how students will perform in the classroom. Virginia is relatively low on the scores. Only 4 states ranked lower than Virginia.
