Numbers 1.3

Girls scored higher than boys by 10%. We have known for awhile that girls scores tend to be higher in reading so there has been a lot of focus on getting boys to read. This doesn't show what kind of reading it was - fiction or non-fiction - which would make a difference. Reading well is a good indicator of how students will perform in the classroom. Virginia is relatively low on the scores. Only 4 states ranked lower than Virginia.
